I've decided to start writing this Blog and, even though is not new, thought that the best 1st post should be around "Now am Manager so what does that mean?" When I took the step towards becoming a Manager my initial thoughts were "What do i need to do now?", " How do I get my people to respect and follow what is needed?", " What if i can't do it or am a bad Manager?" Ahhhhhh... The good old doubting that never stops surprising Well... all of the above doubts and questions were (and indeed still sometimes are) popping into my mind and creating a sense of unease, lack of confidence and other similar feelings. So... I've decided to take a step back and evaluate the situation. My first step was to ask myself "What is a Manager? Really... What is a Manager to me and how do I see it?" So let me (try to) define what is a Manager to me.
I like to use the Sports Team analogy:
We have the players (in this case would be the people on the Team), among the players we have the Team Captain (in this case would be the Senior(s)/Most experience people on the Team. A reference for others) and we have a Coach (that would be a Team Leader) and then comes the President of the club (that should be the Manager). This is how I picture the structure.
That means we are all in the same boat! Players need to play good and win, Captain needs to be an example for the Team and motivate them to continue to push forward and to be/do better. The Coach evaluates performance and applies the tactics to reach the best result. And finally the President defines the big picture, where this Team aims to be, according to the supporters and shareholders expectations. Very simple right? Well....
On my next post will start breaking this down in pieces, share some experiences, challenges, and all the fun stuff that is about to start. Thank you for now.
